Dr Ken macdonald is the medical director of KM Surgical
Dermatology Associates in Christchurch.
This unique specialist practice is located in a single site
at the new ’Avenue Health’ facility which was opened by the Right
Honourable John Key, Prime Minister, in August 2016.
Avenue Health is a modern, purpose built facility with
hospital level operating theatres and CSSD, a laser suite and accredited Mohs
surgery laboratories.
This is a full service medical and surgical dermatology
practice with expertise across the range of complex medical, surgical and
cosmetic procedures and is at the leading edge of surgeries carried out with
advanced local anaesthetic techniques and light sedation for best outcomes and
safety.
Dr Macdonald specialises in cosmetic surgical procedures
including facial, body and limb shaping with microcannula liposuction,
VASERLipo and cryolipoysis. Large area (breasts and buttock) fat grafting
procedures are carried out with the Microaire fat grafting systems and small
area (face and hand) with carefully prepared micro fat. All procedures
are performed in HEPA filtered and air quality assessed environments with
closed systems and standard of care sterile technique. The new emerging
fields of regenerative therapies (nano fat, stromal vascular stem cells and
PRP) are also a focus of this practice. Other surgeries for lipoedema, complex
lipomas and axillary hyperhidrosis are available and effective. KM
Surgical also has very up to date experience with face lift, neck and eyelid
surgeries giving exceptional natural outcomes with no serious complications
after thousands of procedures. Full facial resurfacing is also a
specialty of this practice despite the short term morbidity and this
gives results which are difficult to achieve with other techniques. Scar
revision treatments for acne, burn and surgical scars is another related focus
of this clinic where new techniques are emerging on an almost daily
basis. KM Surgical nurse led clinics achieve expert outcomes for non
ablative laser treatments for vascular, hair, tattoo and other
pigmentation problems and photo rejuvenation. Injectable clinics
cover botulinum toxin and dermal fillers and assist in facial shaping
procedures.
KM Surgical Dermatology Associates doctors Tom
Middelburg and Martin Keefe have particular expertise in skin cancer
assessments, Mohs surgery and complex medical dermatology including the
emergent area of biologic therapies and in patch testing and phototherapy.
