About NZDSI

NZ Dermatological Society Inc

The NZ Dermatological Society Inc (NZDSI) was established in 1948. Its members are specialist dermatologists – they are the medical experts in skin diseases, conditions and their treatment. In 2012, the rules of the Society were varied. All members are now Fellows of the Society, and may use the postnominal initials FNZDS to confirm they have completed training requirements and are currently Vocationally Registered as Dermatologists by the Medical Council of New Zealand.

The NZDSI is an Incorporated Society whose affairs are run by its President and an Executive Committee. Fellows must participate in a Continuing Professional Development recertification programme approved by the Medical Council of New Zealand.

The Society is registered by the New Zealand Companies Office Incorporated Societies, Registration Number 1511951. It is also registered by the New Zealand Charities Commission, Registration Number CC41788.

The Society is a member of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS).

Its scientific journal is the Australasian Journal of Dermatologists.

Aims and functions of the Society

  • To ensure high quality continuing education of its members by following the Medical Council of New Zealand approved specialist dermatologist continuing education programme
  • NZDSI CPD Program Description & Rules
  • To provide a coherent voice for its members in the political, commercial and public arenas
  • To hold annual scientific meetings
  • To collect and disseminate medical knowledge on dermatology
  • To promote dermatological research
  • To arrange visits by expert dermatologists
  • To provide an authoritative body of opinion on matters concerning the skin
